Antalya Airport Undergoes Major Upgrade: Capacity to Reach 82 Million Passengers Per Year
Antalya Airport, the key gateway to one of Turkey’s most popular tourist destinations, is entering a new era. Starting from April 11, 2024, the newly renovated airport will welcome passengers with modernized terminals, expanded infrastructure, and record-breaking capacity levels.
Extensive Renovation Project
As part of this large-scale reconstruction project, the total terminal area has expanded from 191,000 m² to 330,000 m². Two key terminals have been significantly upgraded:
- International Terminal 2 has grown by 140%, increasing from 93,000 m² to 223,000 m².
- Domestic Terminal 1 has doubled in size, from 37,000 m² to 75,000 m².
With these improvements, the airport’s annual passenger capacity will increase from 35 million to 82 million. Additionally, the aircraft parking capacity has expanded from 108 to 176 spots.
A grand opening ceremony for the new terminal is scheduled for April 11, 2024, with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, tourism industry leaders, and local authorities expected to attend.
Boosting Regional Development
The modernization of Antalya Airport is not just about enhancing passenger comfort; it’s also a major catalyst for regional growth. The rising number of travelers and increasing tourism activity are driving demand for hotels, residential, and commercial properties in the surrounding areas.
By 2040, the airport is projected to operate four fully functional terminals, making it one of the largest in Europe. This expansion presents vast investment opportunities in both tourism and real estate development.
Record-Breaking Figures in 2024
This year has already been a milestone for Turkey’s aviation sector. Antalya Airport ranks among the top in passenger traffic and service quality. According to EUROCONTROL, Turkey is among Europe’s top six countries in terms of flight operations, handling an average of 3,140 flights per day. Notably, the average flight delay in Turkish airspace is less than 0.5 minutes per flight, making it one of the most efficient in Europe.
Additionally, Turkey has set a financial record in 2024, with revenues from airspace usage reaching 24.8 billion Turkish lira, highlighting aviation as a vital pillar of the country’s economy.
With increasing tourist flows and growing investor interest, Antalya and its surrounding regions are set to benefit from new economic opportunities and sustained development.
