Turkey is striving for global leadership in the number of beaches awarded the prestigious "Blue Flag" quality certification.

"We will submit applications to the international jury in Denmark. The locations awarded the 'Blue Flag' will be announced worldwide in early May. Our ultimate goal is to secure first place," said environmentalist Mustafa Ergiğdiren. He also noted that the "Blue Flag" is the most recognizable ecological label in the world.

The "Blue Flag" program operates in 51 countries. It promotes sustainable development and adherence to environmental standards in swimming areas. Beaches must meet 33 criteria, while marinas must fulfill 25.

In 2024, Turkey ranked third globally, following Spain and Greece, with 567 beaches, 27 marinas, 18 tourist boats, and 9 private yachts awarded the "Blue Flag." Italy and France followed Turkey.

The Antalya province became the global leader with 233 certified beaches and 9 marinas. The second place is held by Muğla province with 112 sites, and the third by Izmir with 64 sites.

In Alanya, applications for the "Blue Flag" certification for beaches and marinas for 2025 are open until December 6, 2024.

In 2024, Alanya had 66 sites awarded the "Blue Flag," including beaches, 6 public beaches, and 1 beach accessible for people with disabilities.
